Quality & Safety
Every Medicus diet is made under human-food standards, using USDA-inspected ingredients and validated safety processes. From the first ingredient to the final batch test, quality control is built into everything we do.
Our Quality Promise
When pets face health challenges, food safety isn’t optional. That’s why Medicus diets are crafted under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and follow HACCP and FSMA standards.
All ingredients come from USDA-inspected sources—the same trusted suppliers used for restaurant and grocery-quality foods.
Supplier Quality Assurance
Ingredient Type | Requirements |
Verification
|
| Meats | USDA-inspected; visually examined only (no palpation or incision) | Supplier audit + COA |
| Fruits & Vegetables | Whole, US-grown produce | COA + visual inspection |
| Seeds, Legumes, Tocopherols | COA required for each shipment | Third-party testing |
From how ingredients are sourced to how they’re verified, our controls begin long before production ever starts.
Process Controls
Each Medicus diet undergoes a validated pasteurization step at 165°F for at least 15 seconds, achieving a 5–6 log reduction of pathogens like Salmonella and E. coli. This ensures our diets are safe for immunocompromised pets while preserving up to 97% of nutrients through freeze-drying.
Testing & Validation
During product development, each recipe underwent a comprehensive validation program to confirm nutritional accuracy and ingredient integrity.
Formulation-stage validation included:
-Nutritional validation against AAFCO profiles relevant to the therapeutic intent
-Proximate analysis (moisture, fat, protein) for consistency and label accuracy
-Biogenic amine levels (e.g., histamine, putrescine, cadaverine) as indicators of meat freshness and proper cold-chain handling
Every Medicus batch is verified for microbiological safety through third-party testing.
We test every batch for:
Pathogens: Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria
All results are tied to lot numbers for complete traceability.
Our supplier qualification and testing programs ensure that every ingredient consistently meets Medicus standards.
If a recipe evolves, we perform targeted checks—such as proximate or nutrient analyses—to confirm that specifications remain precisely on target.
Biogenic amines (like histamine, putrescine, and cadaverine) naturally form as proteins degrade. By maintaining exceptionally low levels, we confirm that all meats are:
Fresh and processed immediately after slaughter
Stored under proper cold-chain conditions
Free from spoilage or oxidative degradation
These results provide quantifiable proof of ingredient quality and freshness—reinforcing that Medicus starts with human-grade meats that meet the highest safety standards.
Each batch is re-tested post-pasteurization and freeze-drying for microbial safety and nutrient stability. All results and COAs are logged by lot number for full traceability from supplier to packaged food.
Traceability & Transparency
Every Medicus diet can be traced back to its origin. From raw ingredient to final batch, every step is documented and verifiable.
Our traceability system ensures complete transparency—for veterinarians, retailers, and guardians alike.
Quality Without Shortcuts
For pets facing disease, food safety is everything.
Medicus diets are crafted with precision, tested for assurance, and trusted by veterinarians when it matters most.
